What do mini–Highland Cattle eat?

Miniature and micro-Highland cattle have a dietary requirement of high-quality hay and fresh grass and also benefit from appropriate mineral supplements. Occasionally they do well with small amounts of grain-based feed for extra energy. During the winter season they will require additional, carefully monitored feeding to maintain healthy body condition. We recommend at least a ½ to 1 acre of proper pasture per cow for grazing.


What type of shelter do I need for my miniature Highland cow?

It is important to provide some type of shelter for your cattle. A small barn or 3-sided run in is always appreciated during inclement weather such as rain, heat, or snow. Highland cattle also enjoy access to a dam, small stream, or even sprinklers to cool down during hotter months.


Will miniature Highland cows require hoof care?

Miniature and micro-and cows may require hoof trimming as they grow. This will require monitoring and to check their hooves regularly. Consult a farrier when needed. Due to some climates, hooves may naturally wear and will not require trimming.


What medications do I keep on hand?
